* feat!: Remove all trivial mentions of PREVIEW_LMS_BASE
There are a few more mentions but these are all the ones that don't need
major further followup.
BREAKING CHANGE: The learning MFE now supports preview functionality
natively and it is no longer necessary to use a different domain on the
LMS to render a preview of course content.
See https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-learning/issues/1455 for
more details.
* feat: Drop the `in_preview_mode` function.
Since we're no longer using a separate domain, that check always
returned false. Remove it and update any places/tests where it is used.
* feat: Drop courseware_mfe_is_active function.
With the removal of the preview check this function is also a no-op now
so drop calls to it and update the places where it is called to not
change other behavior.
* feat!: Drop redirect to preview from the legacy courseware index.
The CoursewareIndex view is going to be removed eventually but for now
we're focusing on removing the PREVIEW_LMS_BASE setting. With this
change, if someone tries to load the legacy courseware URL from the
preview domain it will no longer redirect them to the MFE preview.
This is not a problem that will occur for users coming from existing
studio links because those links have already been updated to go
directly to the new urls.
The only way this path could execute is if someone goes directly to the
old Preview URL that they saved off platform somewhere. eg. If they
bookmarked it for some reason.
BREAKING CHANGE: Saved links (including bookmarks) to the legacy preview
URLs will no longer redirect to the MFE preview URLs.
* test: Drop the set_preview_mode test helper.
This test helper was setting the preview mode for tests by changing the
hostname that was set while tests were running. This was mostly not
being used to test preview but to run a bunch of legacy courseware tests
while defaulting to the new learning MFE for the courseware.
This commit updates various tests in the `courseware` app to not rely on
the fact that we're in preview to test legacy courseware behavior and
instead directly patches either the `_redirect_to_learning_mfe` function
or uses the `_get_legacy_courseware_url` or both to be able to have the
tests continue to test the legacy coursewary.
This will hopefully make the tests more accuarte even though hopefully
we'll just be removing many of them soon as a part of the legacy
courseware cleanup.
We're just doing the preview removal separately to reduce the number of
things that are changing at once.
* test: Drop the `_get_urls_function`
With the other recent cleanup, this function is no longer being
referenced by anything so we can just drop it.
* test: Test student access to unpublihsed content.
Ensure that students can't get access to unpublished content.
This commit addresses to the need to add an API for Sidebar Navigation
that returns the course structure with sections, subsections, and
**units**, according to user access rules. (Previous outline requests
only went down to subsections.)
To improve the performance of the API, we cache the course structure
for a user, which makes it much easier to calculate the block structure
for the user at each request. However, there may be cases when this
caching can lead to an overflow of the cache storage in high-loaded LMS
with large courses, so the corresponding flag
"courseware.disable_navigation_sidebar_blocks_caching" was added so
that this caching can be disabled.

* feat: create video setting endpoint
* feat: move toggle out of lms

BREAKING: get rid of the LegacyWaffle-based CourseWaffleFlag.
Both CourseWaffleFlag and FutureCourseWaffleFlag now use the modern
WaffleFlag as parent class. FutureCourseWaffleFlag left to support ORA
transition to modern waffle.
Switch to the ORA version which supporting new Waffles.
This is a first stage for removing the LegacyWaffle* classes.
LegacyWaffleFlag usage replaced with WaffleFlag;
LegacyWaffleSwitche usage replaced with WaffleSwitch;
New CourseWaffleFlag added to the temporary module __future__ as FutureCourseWaffleFlag;
Updated all the imports to use CourseWaffleFlag from the __future__ module;
BREAKING CHANGE: A number of toggle related constants (e.g. ENABLE_ACCESSIBILITY_POLICY_PAGE)
changed types. They were strings, and are now toggle instances (e.g. WaffleSwitch). Although the entire
refactor should be self-contained in edx-platform, if any plugins or dependencies were directly
using these constants, they will break. If this is the case, try to find a better publicized way of
exposing those toggles.
The only way to access the legacy courseware is now through the
Studio preview feature (and at some point, when the MFE supports a
preview mode, we can then remove even that).
This drops the courseware.use_legacy_frontend waffle.
This is in service of dropping support for these ancient
courses and removing legacy code that they rely on.
Eventually, we'll remove all access. But this is a first step,
to reduce enrolled learners.
DEPR-58
Non-enrolled staff users were being shown enroll links for courses
that you can't self-enroll for (masters-only, invitation-only, etc).
This fixes the outline page to ignore staff status for that check.

The learning_sequences.use_for_outlines flag was recently added,
intended to serve the same purpose
as courseware.use_learning_seuqences_api. We do not need
both flags.
Furthermore, exposing either flag in the Courseware
Metadata API is neither necessary nor helpful, since
the easiest and quickest way for the Learning MFE to see
if the Learning Sequences API is enabled is to hit it,
and fall back to a different API if a 403 is returned.
This reverts commit 78f1e2b3bd.
TNL-8330
Add a Waffle Flag. When enabled, the courseware pages of the
Learning MFE should use the Learning Sequences HTTP API instead
of the Course Blocks HTTP API in order to load course structure
data. We expect that this switchover will lead to performance
improvements and a more comprehensible system.
(We are putting the switchover behind a temporary flag in order to
enable debugging, incremental rollout, and comparison testing.)
The flag is exposed to the MFE via the Course API.
As of this commit, the new flag is not enabled in any environment,
and the MFE does not have any code to act on the flag's value.
So, this commit on its own should have no production impact.

This PR changes the preview URL redirect from Studio. Before when a user clicked on the course preview button to check unpublished changes, the preview in the New Experience would show the most recently published version of the course. The unpublished changes that the user was hoping to view are no present. At the moment users have been publishing the content to check it then having to republish the old version if they did not like the changes. As a short-term fix, this PR redirects to the Legacy experience where the preview option previously worked. Now the user can see the unpublished changes. A long-term fix is still being explored. This change will impact the Course Author.

Currently, course staff can always view their courses
in the Legacy courseware experience.
With this change, course staff will *not* be able
to view their courses if the New (MFE) courseware
experience has been enabled for them.
This does not affect global staff, and it does not
affect courses that are still running in the Legacy
experience.
Adds a new parameter returned by the course metadata API
used by the courseware MFE to determine if the button to
show legacy experience should be displayed or not.
TNL-8203
Since the ENABLE_COURSEWARE_MICROFRONTEND Django setting
was removed, the "View in New Experience" button began
to always appear in Legacy courseware for global staff
members in *all* environments.
This was OK for edx.org's purposes, since the Learning MFE
is deployed in all of our production environments.
However, many (perhaps most) Lilac Open edX instances will
*not* deploy the Learning MFE. So, we need to make sure that
this button is not shown by default.
Since we cannot programmatically tell from LMS whether
or not the Learning MFE is deployed, we will depend on
the value of the `courseware.microfrontend_course_team_preview`
flag, which is already being used to decide whether
course staff can see the "View in New Experience" button.
Whether or not the button is shown, global staff will
still be permitted to browse courses in the Learning
MFE if it is deployed.

A variety of updates were made to improve the toggle documentation:
* Added comments to help ensure that the waffle(), waffle_switches(),
waffle_flags() anti-pattern won't be contagious (copied).
* Some minor toggle_description updates.
* Removed empty toggle_target_removal_date annotations for
non-temporary toggles.
* Removed empty optional toggle_warnings annotations.
* Removed empty optional toggle_tickets annotations.
* Removed deprecated toggle_category, toggle_status,
and toggle_expiration_date annotations.
* Fixed some indents, use cases, and implementations.
ARCHBOM-1721
In commit 9b37e7d0, the logic of
`streak_celebration_is_active` was accidentally
changed such that it no longer checks the
Progress Milestones waffle flag.
This commit fixes that.
Note: This also adds in a transitive check to
`courseware_mfe_is_active`,
which makes sense for Streak Celebration
and should not have any functional impact.
Centralize the logic for choosing between
MFE and Legacy-frontend courseware within
three new functions:
* courseware_mfe_is_active
* courseware_mfe_is_visible
* courseware_legacy_is_visible
This allows us to create another new function:
* get_courseware_url
which can be called anywhere in LMS/Studio
to get the canonical URL to courseware
content (whether it be MFE or Legacy).
In future commits we we begin using
get_courseware_url throughout the platform.
TNL-7796
When this flag is enabled, users will be 50/50 bucketed into an
experiment where users get course highlights and nudges from an
external service (like sailthru or braze) rather than from
edx-platform via ACE.
AA-661
The Django setting
FEATURES['ENABLE_COURSEWARE_MICROFRONTEND']
has been an additional gate to activating
usage of the Learning MFE for an Open edX
instance.
The toggle is redundant with the
`courseware.courseware_mfe`
Waffle flag. By removing it, we simplify our config
and simplify our path towards making the Learning MFE
the default courseware experience.
TNL-7796
This feature uses the first_day_of_streak, last_day_of_streak and last_streak_celebration fields to determine whether the user should see a celebration.
AA-304
Mobile apps load HTML (and other) XBlocks individually using the
render_xblock endpoint. This is an attmept to reduce the number
of requests and JS processing needed to do so by detecting when
we have math content in HTMLBlocks and only adding the Mathjax
resources when necessary.
This is controlled by the "courseware.optimized_render_xblock"
CourseWaffleFlag. For maximum safety, we currently only optimize
in this way when directly hitting HTMLBlocks, and not for
ProblemBlock or VerticalBlock.
This was made as part of edX's Hackathon XXV.
The toggle was previously an ExperimentWaffleFlag,
which allows stable A/B testing but increases the toggle's
complexity. Since we do not plan an doing any more A/B
tests as part of the MFE rollout, we can 'downgrade' this
toggle to a CourseWaffleFlag, which still allows us to do
phased rollout and course-run-specific overrides.
By explicitly importing the legacy namespace classes, we make it clear
that we are using soon-to-be-deprecated classes. We will then be able to
start removing the legacy classes, one module at a time.
